Bus that overturned and left 8 dead and 12 seriously injured in Bahia had 22 passengers on board

A bus overturned on BR-122, in Iraquara, on Friday (25). The accident caused the death of 8 people and left 12 others injured.

The vehicle left Fortaleza bound for Palmas and had 22 passengers on board.

The circumstances of the accident are still to be determined.

The bus from the Rio Real company that overturned on BR-122, in the rural area of ​​Iraquara, in Chapada Diamantina, and killed eight people and seriously injured 12 had 22 passengers on board. The accident happened at 11:30 pm on Friday (25).

The injured people received first aid at the scene of the accident, approximately 15km from Iraquara, and were taken to two health units in the region:

The Military Police, Fire Department and Technical Police Department (DPT) were called to the incident.

Rescue teams removed three bodies from the bus's wreckage. After the vehicle was toppled, four other bodies were located: two men, a woman and a child. The eighth victim was rescued and received medical attention, but he succumbed to his injuries and died.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

Two people were rescued without injuries from the accident, the two drivers of the bus, which departed from Fortaleza, in Ceará, and was destined for Palmas, in the state of Tocantins.

One of the victims was identified as Lucas José Jesus Santana, a Military Police soldier assigned to the 28th CIPM/Ibotirama. He was hitchhiking and was in uniform at the time of the accident.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. The circumstances are still to be determined.

The Public Security Secretariat of Bahia (SSP-BA) issued a note expressing solidarity with the family, friends and colleagues of the fatal victims, including soldier Lucas José. The department highlighted that all measures to investigate the causes of the accident are being adopted by the Civil Police and the Technical Police Department.
