Munich is applying as an Olympic location

Munich is applying to host the Olympic Games in 2036, 2040 or 2044. In the secret election of the extraordinary general meeting of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), the Bavarian capital prevailed over Cologne-Rhine-Ruhr. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier announced the decision.

The 42 leading Olympic associations, each with three votes, as well as the personal members and the executive board members of the DOSB were entitled to vote. There were 141 votes up for grabs. The decision was made in the first round of voting.

Munich is now registered with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as a candidate for the Olympics and Paralympics.
