The renaming only affects Apple users in the US, while Canada will continue to see the name Lake Ontario, Canadian broadcaster CBC reported. German users will see the name Lake Ontario. Google had also made a similar regulation for its popular Maps function, where the new name has been displayed for a few days - in Germany both names can be seen on Google Maps.

Trump orders, tech companies adapt

Lake Ontario is one of the so-called five Great Lakes, four of which are divided by the border between the United States and Canada. Trump is using name changes in his second term to demonstrate his power. In this case, he is renaming the lake on the border with Canada because the country's government has not yet given in to the customs dispute with the United States.

Last year, Google had already taken a similar approach to what it is doing now, by showing US Google Maps users the bay previously known as the Gulf of Mexico as the "Gulf of America" ​​following Trump's move. Apple also followed the renaming. Gulf of Mexico was previously the name in use since the 16th century. The name Lake Ontario also goes back to the 17th century.
