Lula demands STF and PGR for resolving the investigation into Banco Master

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) this Thursday (3) charged the STF (Federal Supreme Court) and the PGR (Attorney General's Office) for resolving the investigation into Banco Master. The PT member also said that everyone under suspicion must be investigated.

"Our democracy cannot be held hostage by selective leaks. Given the gravity of the moment, the Brazilian people expect the president of the Supreme Court and the Attorney General's Office to lead with a process that guarantees integrity and trust in the investigations", said the PT member in an institutional statement in a video recorded in his office at Palácio do Planalto.

It was the president's first public statement on the subject after the release of a Federal Police report that shows an exchange of messages between former banker Daniel Vorcaro, from Master, with an interlocutor identified as Minister Alexandre de Moraes, from the STF.

Without mentioning names, Lula also stated that the time has come for people who work in life to put public commitment ahead of their personal interests.

"Democracy needs strong and respected institutions. It is clear that our political and judicial systems need profound reforms. It is essential that everyone be investigated, without shielding anyone, no matter who it hurts. The Brazilian people have the right to know the truth", concluded the president.

The video was released on Lula's social networks this evening, days after the revelations about Vorcaro and Moraes.

In the conversation between the two, the businessman asks the magistrate if he should leave the country two days before he is arrested by the Federal Police, in November 2025.

The release of the messages triggered an unprecedented crisis at court. On the eve of the elections, the court was already receiving criticism from candidates, with promises of impeachment from some of the Supreme Court ministers.

The Master case is under the report of Minister André Mendonça. The magistrate was responsible for asking the PF for a report with the dialogues between Vorcaro and Moraes and for overturning the secrecy of the document on Tuesday (1st).

On the same day, Lula spoke with the president of the court, minister Edson Fachin, about the case.

The PT member was also approached by the dean of the court, Gilmar Mendes, who asked the president for support from the federal government for the PF leadership. The judge told Lula that the episode involving Mendonça was not only a problem for the STF, but also for the Executive, as it was an undue intervention in the corporation's work.

On Wednesday (2), the president discussed with allies and defined that any demonstrations about the case would be along the lines that no one is above the law.
