Suspect of Shepherd Murder in Mardin Caught in Adana

Şükrü Akçay (50), who was arrested after being determined to be involved in the incident in which shepherd Musa Çelik was shot and killed with a long-barreled gun in Mardin in 2021, was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison for 'deliberate murder'.

According to DHA's news, the prison sentence of Akçay, who was learned to have been released a while ago, was approved by the Supreme Court.

Akçay, who was determined to have made videos under different names in order to become a virtual media celebrity, was caught by the police at the address where he was hiding in Adana.

The incident took place on November 21, 2021, in the rural Çamyurt District of Mardin's Midyat district. Shepherd Musa Çelik was shot and killed with a long-barreled gun due to the hostility that started between the two families due to a debt dispute.

Gendarmerie teams working on the incident, based on witness statements, Şükrü Akçay, who was the chief security guard at the time, and his brothers M.A. and detained Veysi Akçay. 3 suspects who were referred to the courthouse were arrested.

M.A., one of the suspects against whom a lawsuit was filed in the Midyat High Criminal Court. While he was acquitted, Veysi Akçay was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison for "threatening with a weapon" and Şükrü Akçay was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison for "deliberate murder". The prison sentence given to Şükrü Akçay, who was released from prison a while ago pending trial, was approved by the Supreme Court.

Provincial Police Department Public Order Branch Homicide Bureau teams started an operation to capture Akçay upon information that he was in Adana. In their city-wide investigation, murder detectives found that Akçay was hiding in a house in Yeşilyurt District of Seyhan district. The police, who carried out an operation at the address, caught Akçay. Akçay, whose procedures at the police station were completed, was first sent to the courthouse and then to prison.
