Milei orders international arbitration against the United Kingdom for oil exploitation in the Falkland-Malvinas

Argentine President Javier Milei has ordered the United Kingdom to stop oil exploitation in the Falkland-Malvinas Islands by announcing the start of international arbitration. “I have directed the Foreign Office and our legal teams to initiate international arbitration against the UK for the unlawful plundering of our resources through the Sea Lion project in the Northern Malvinas Basin,” Milei wrote on social media.

"If the United Kingdom does not put an end to this illegitimate exploitation within two weeks, we will take the matter to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea. The Malvinas are Argentine and defend themselves with facts, not with words", concludes the message from the Argentine president.

Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno described the president's decision as "a historic and unprecedented step." "We act in compliance with international law and through peaceful means. Recovering the full exercise of our sovereignty is a constitutional mandate that we will not renounce," he added.
