Moraes orders closure of the investigation into PRF blitzes in the second round of the 2022 elections

In the investigation, the Federal Police gathered indications that the five defendants committed the crimes of disobedience, malfeasance (when a public agent disrespects the law by acting or omitting), restriction on the exercise of the right to vote and participation (by omission) in the crime of attempting to abolish the Democratic Rule of Law.

The Attorney General's Office (PGR), however, understood that there were no elements against the former directors of the PRF.

In the decision, Moraes stated that, given the PGR's understanding, the case should be closed.

On October 30, 2022, the day of the second round of that year's elections, the PRF carried out blitzes that interfered with the movement of voters - especially in the Northeast, where the then presidential candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) had an advantage over Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in voting intention polls.

On Sunday of the second round, minister Alexandre de Moraes ordered the immediate suspension of the blitzes, under penalty of arrest for Silvinei Vasques, general director of the PF in the Jair Bolsonaro government. The order, however, was disrespected by the PRF.

A report obtained by Andréia Sadi's blog at the time shows that the PRF inspected 2,185 buses in the Northeast, where Lula (PT) was the favorite, against 571 in the Southeast, between October 28 and 30, the day before and on the day of the 2nd round of the 2022 elections.
