Driver dies after crashing car into construction crater in Prudentópolis

A 45-year-old driver died in the early hours of Wednesday (30) after falling with his car into an open crater in the middle of the street due to construction work in Prudentópolis, in the central region of Paraná.

The scene was recorded by a security camera.

In a statement, the city council of Prudentópolis regretted the accident, explained that an outsourced company was carrying out drainage work at the site, with the installation of new manilas to drain rainwater, and ensured that at the time of the fall the section was signposted and illuminated.

As it involves a death, the situation must be investigated by the Civil Police of Paraná. g1 asked the corporation whether the information that the section was signposted and illuminated had already been confirmed, and is awaiting a response.

The driver's body was sent to the technical-scientific execution unit of the Guarapuava Scientific Police for examination. Until the publication of this report, his name had not been officially released.

The accident happened shortly before 2:20 am, on the corner of Avenida São João and Rua Prudente de Moraes.

The car was only noticed in the hole at around 6:50 am, when the Fire Department was called to respond to the incident.

"The Municipal Government of Prudentópolis expresses its deep regret for the accident that occurred in the early hours of this Wednesday (30), on Avenida São João, which resulted in the death of the driver of a vehicle.

At around 2:19 am, a vehicle, occupied only by the driver, fell in the place where drainage work is being carried out, with the installation of new shackles to drain rainwater.

The work is being carried out by an outsourced company and, at the time of the accident, the section was signposted and illuminated.

The City Hall is monitoring the situation and awaiting the conclusion of the investigations carried out by the competent authorities, including the work of the Scientific Police and the Medical-Legal Institute (IML), which should clarify the circumstances and causes of the accident.

In this moment of pain, the Municipal Administration expresses its solidarity and deep regret to the victim's family and friends, wishing them strength and comfort in the face of this irreparable loss."
