New York Times engineering manager killed in shooting in US

40-year-old Jonathan McKinsey, who worked as an engineering manager in the gaming unit of the New York Times in the US state of California, died as a result of a gun attack in the parking lot of a sports complex.

Police detained McKinsey's father-in-law, Shouyong Zhang, and mother-in-law, Shili Chen, on suspicion of murder.

The incident took place on Saturday, September 26, in Dublin, approximately 56 kilometers east of San Francisco.

McKinsey was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the Dublin Sports Grounds car park, police said. Despite the intervention of medical teams, McKinsey died at the scene.

The New York Times also confirmed McKinsey's death. McKinsey served as engineering director for the paper's Games unit.

HIS FATHER-IN-LAW AND MOTHER-IN-LAW WERE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

Police detained McKinsey's father-in-law, Shouyong Zhang, and mother-in-law, Shili Chen, shortly after the attack.

The couple, both 77 years old, were sent to Santa Rita Prison on various charges, especially murder. They also face charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, grossly negligent use of a firearm and child endangerment.

It was reported that many people were in the area at the time of the incident. Witnesses said they heard gunshots repeatedly and then saw McKinsey on the ground.

Some witnesses said the suspects remained near the scene after the attack. Police reported that the two suspects were caught in a short time, thanks to the information provided by people in the area.

THE REASON FOR THE MURDER IS BEING INVESTIGATED

The police have not yet made an official statement regarding the cause of the attack.

However, the US press, based on court records, reported that McKinsey and his wife had a long-standing legal dispute regarding divorce and child custody.

It was reported that allegations of domestic violence and maltreatment of children were also mutually raised between the parties.

It has not yet been announced by the police whether the allegations in question are directly related to the murder.
