OpenAI cancels release of AI model GPT 6.1 Astra due to security concerns

ChatGPT developer OpenAI has canceled the release of a new AI model due to security concerns. Among other things, the software did not always honestly inform users in tests about what actions it had taken or not taken, said OpenAI manager Saachi Jain, who is responsible for security systems, to the Wall Street Journal.

In addition, the AI ​​model partly acted on its own initiative without obtaining user permission. The model called GPT 6.1 Astra should therefore be released in the coming days or weeks.

Unauthorized actions by advanced artificial intelligence from OpenAI have repeatedly made negative headlines in recent weeks. It was only announced at the weekend that the company was suspending training of its most powerful AI models after a new incident. In the incident, an AI model managed to get answers from an external chatbot in a test even though it wasn't supposed to have internet access.

However, the software found and exploited a gap in the network settings, as OpenAI reported in a blog entry. Training should now only be resumed when it is certain that the gap has been closed. The affected AI model was not GPT 6.1 Astra.
