Paraíba records a 42% drop in the number of candidacies for the 2026 Elections

According to DivulgaCand, a system of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) that concentrates candidate data with the Electoral Court, Paraíba has 450 candidacies registered in 2026.

The number of candidacies for the 2026 Elections in Paraíba fell by 42% compared to candidacies for the election in 2022. The data was extracted by TV Cabo Branco from the DivulgaCand system.

According to the data, in 2022 there were 752 registered candidacies, while for the 2026 Elections there are 436. These numbers represent a reduction in absolute numbers of 316 names from one election to another.

The survey takes into account all positions being contested for this year's election, such as governor, vice-governor, federal and state deputy, as well as senators.

Also according to the survey, the biggest reduction in candidate registration was for state deputy. In 2022, 471 candidacies for the position were registered, while for the 2026 Elections, 208 candidacies were registered, which leads to a 55% reduction in names available to vote for this position.

There was also a reduction in the number of candidates for federal deputy. In 2022, there were 251 registrations while in the 2026 Elections there were 184 candidacies, resulting in a reduction of 27%.
