The Prosecutor General requests pre-trial detention for the former policeman in the Zondacrypto case

The spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General, Anna Adamiak, said on Wednesday that the prosecutor's office's application was sent to the Katowice-Wschód District Court, and the justification for the arrest of Artur K., indicated by the prosecutor, was a justified fear of the suspect escaping or going into hiding, the risk of severe punishment, as well as a justified fear of procedural fraud or unlawful obstruction of the proceedings in another way.

"The court accepted the prosecutor's request and consented to the temporary arrest of Artur K. for 3 months," Żurek wrote on X.

What charges did Artur K. face?

Artur K., one of the former heads of the Cybercrime Department of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Katowice, heard allegations of participation in an organized criminal group, money laundering and sabotage of security procedures to the detriment of stock exchange customers. The suspect pleads not guilty, but in the prosecutor's opinion, the collected evidence constitutes the basis for submitting an application for temporary arrest to the court. We will settle it downwards - without any agreements, without exceptions and without reduced tariffs - commented the Minister of Justice, Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek.

Artur K. was arrested as part of an investigation into the "unlawful deprivation of liberty of Sylwester Suszek and misleading many people as to the possibility of purchasing and storing fiat currencies and cryptocurrencies on the Zondacrypto exchange, thus leading to unfavorable disposal of property."

At the request of the prosecutor, a search was also carried out at Artur K.'s place of residence, where documentation regarding the activities of the Zondacrypto exchange was found and secured, as well as the fuel base where Sylwester Suszek was last seen before his disappearance in March 2022.

Proceedings regarding the Zondacrypto cryptocurrency exchange were initiated by the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Katowice on April 17, 2026 for fraud of significant value and money laundering. So far, several thousand crime reports have been received.

At the beginning of August, these proceedings were combined with the investigation ongoing in the Silesian department of the National Prosecutor's Office related to the disappearance of Sylwester Suszek, whose fate has been unknown since March 2022. As part of the investigation into the Zondacrypto cryptocurrency exchange, the arrests included: the former head of the Polish Olympic Committee, Radosław Piesiewicz.
