Jiang Wanan’s academic qualifications controversy: Lawyer Lin Zhiqun pointed out that the problem lies in pretending to be SJD rather than JD itself

Recently, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wanan’s English resume page at the Legislative Yuan changed. His original SJD (Juris Doctor) degree has been quietly changed to JD (Juris Doctor), which has aroused doubts from all walks of life. The Beijing Municipal Government clarified that the Chinese academic information provided by Jiang Wanan when he was a legislator was "always correct" and that the English translation was wrong by a manufacturer commissioned by the Legislative Yuan. Lawyer Lin Zhiqun emphasized: "The problem is not JD, but the person who clearly is JD but wants to pretend to be SJD."

Lin Zhiqun pointed out that in fact, JD is also a great practical degree. The courses are very solid and not that easy to obtain. Many American justices, judges, prosecutors, and scholars are from JD. But the problem is not with JD, but with the person who is clearly a JD but wants to pretend to be an SJD. In addition, most JD students have to pass the very difficult LSAT (Law School Admission Test), with a full score of 180 points. Prestigious schools require at least 170 points. Lin Zhiqun emphasized that Jiang Wanan did not take the LSAT. He first applied for LLM (LL.M. / Master of Laws) and then transferred to JD. Penn State later canceled this internal transfer channel.
