Dispute over state parliament committees in Saxony-Anhalt remains unresolved

In the dispute over the composition of state parliament committees in Saxony-Anhalt, the parliamentary groups have not yet found a solution during a consultation in Magdeburg.

On September 30th, the representatives of the AfD, CDU, SPD, Greens, Left and BSW will meet for another meeting in the so-called pre-elderly council, as several parliamentary managing directors said after the discussion. The committee discusses the procedural rules for parliamentary operations.

The AfD aims for the committees to consist of 12 instead of the current 13 members. However, the state parliament administration has recommended a composition of 11 members. Size makes a difference: with a strength of 12 politicians, the AfD could take 6 places - that wouldn't be a majority of its own, but a stalemate of 6:6 against the other factions. This would make it easier for decisions or recommendations for resolutions in the committee to be blocked or delayed.

The size of the committee is finally determined by the rules of procedure, which the state parliament could decide on October 6th after the election of the state parliament president. If the committees of 12 are established, several factions want to file a lawsuit with the state constitutional court because they do not see the election results reflected in the majority.
