18-year-old Münir Basri, who lives in Narlıca District of Antakya district, came to Hatay with his family in 2015 due to the civil war in Syria. Münir, who was 7 years old when he left his country, continued his education in Hatay, learned Turkish and continued his school life there. The house of Münir's family, who also experienced the earthquakes of February 6, 2023, in Hatay, where he settled after the war, was severely damaged. The family, who had to leave their home, moved to Sakarya.
Münir, who continued his education until the 10th grade in Sakarya, returned to Hatay due to his family's financial difficulties and his father's job. Münir, who started preparing for the university exam at the beginning of the 12th grade, studied at home without going to private teaching institutions. Münir, who was preparing for the exam at the study table in the same room with his three brothers, studied for an average of 6 hours a day, entered the top 22 thousand in the numerical field of YKS and entered the faculty of medicine. Münir said that he wanted to become a citizen in Türkiye, where he has been living for 11 years, and that he wanted to wear his white coat and serve the Turkish people as a doctor.
"I WAS PLACED IN THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE"
Münir Basri, who came to Hatay in 2015 and continued his education during the civil war in Syria, stated that he continued his education with the support of his family and said, "When we came to Hatay, there was an adjustment period, but the most important thing for me and my family was education. Thanks to my mother, she took me to the courses and she also went to the courses. My father also gave a lot of support in this regard. Thank God, we learned our Turkish by continuing like this. Unfortunately, when we came to 2023, we experienced the February 6 earthquake. Our house was heavily damaged and we had to leave the house." We stayed on the streets and moved here and there. After that, I met very nice people in Sakarya. I continued my education there when I was in the 10th grade. But due to some financial difficulties and my father's work, I started studying at YKS and was working an average of 6 hours a day. Thanks to the support my family gave me and the financial and moral support I received. "They motivated me. At the beginning of the exam, I was torn between two departments: dentistry and medicine. I knew that I would be happy at the end of the year. That's why I started studying at YKS. I was among the top 22 thousand students in the numerical field. Thank God, I am very happy with my results."
"MY DREAM IS TO WEAR MY WHITE COAT AND BECOME A DOCTOR"
Münir Basri, who said that he wanted to serve the Republic of Turkey, which treated his family with compassion after the war and the earthquake, stated that he prepared for YKS with the videos he watched on the internet without going to the private teaching institution in the room where he lived with his 3 siblings, and said, "My only dream and goal now is to become a citizen of the Republic of Turkey. Because I may have the opportunity to repay these favors done to me. My biggest dream right now is to wear my white coat and serve the Republic of Turkey as a doctor. It is very important for me to benefit the country I live in, to help the people here and to touch them and bring them happiness." Important: Unfortunately, I could not apply for any scholarship because the first requirement for most scholarships is to be a citizen of the Republic of Turkey. Moreover, with this year's decision, foreign students have to pay a fee of 115 thousand Turkish liras per year, depending on the department they are placed in. This situation, of course, put my family in financial difficulties. As a result, we can face such financial and moral difficulties. "We are brothers, we are all men. The house is a bit noisy at times. As you can see, we live in the same room, in four beds. Thank you, my brothers respected me and stayed quiet. I sat here and studied. However, there were trials going on in some private teaching institutions. Was I participating in them? Yes, I was watching videos on the internet and studying on my own," he said.

Mother Dima Atıf, who is happy that her son got into medical school, said, "We came here from Idlib city of Syria. I was very happy that my son got into medicine. He realized his biggest dream.
