Summit in Miami and invitation to Russia

This year's G20 meeting will be held on December 14–15 in Miami, Florida. The host will be US President Donald Trump. Poland, invited by the United States as a guest, is to be represented by Karol Nawrocki.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had also received an invitation. He expressed hope that the Russian leader would accept them and meet with Trump and other leaders.

In an interview with Wirtualna Polska, Przydacz emphasized: We don't like it - referring to the decision regarding Putin. He also noted that Poland is a guest at the summit, so its task "is not (...) to indicate to the participants of the format who should be part of it."

If it were up to us, Russia should be isolated in all international forums, he added.

Nawrocki is to fly to the USA

Przydacz said Putin "should answer for his crimes." At the same time, he emphasized that Poland's participation in the G20 remains important.

The president is going to Miami and does not intend to change his plans at this stage, said the head of BPM. He added that Poland also participates in other formats together with countries with which it disagrees.

According to Przydacz, Nawrocki should not be expected to contact Putin if the Russian president visits the US. If the Russian leader actually intends to come, and not just been invited, we will talk about it with our European and Euro-Atlantic allies, he noted.

Poland wants a permanent place in the G20

The head of BPM stated that Poland's invitation proves the growing importance of the country. Warsaw is seeking a permanent presence in the G20. Przydacz hopes that he will be invited to next year's summit chaired by Great Britain, "unless the entire G20 agrees to expand" the format to include Poland.

Nawrocki announced earlier that he would also present the position of the Three Seas Initiative countries in Miami. Poland is to say, among other things: on foreign investments, demographic policy and diversification of energy sources.

What is the G20?

Created in 1999, the G20 group brings together 19 largest national economies, including: USA, Germany, France, China, Japan, India and Russia, as well as the European Union and the African Union (from 2023). Its members are responsible for approximately 85 percent. world GDP and over 75 percent world trade. The G20 has no legal criteria for selecting members, nor does it have permanent structures.
