Ukraine accuses Russia of systematic attacks on the railway network

Ukraine has accused Russia of a systematic attack on its railway network. Due to nationwide attacks, the monitoring center and all personnel of the Ukrainian railway are “on high alert,” the state railway company said in online services on Sunday. She warned of possible evacuations and train delays as well as diversions in the central Ukrainian region of Dnipro.

The Russian Defense Ministry said it had attacked infrastructure in western Ukraine that was used for military transport from Europe.

On Sunday, a Russian drone hit a train that was traveling towards Poland near the border. According to information from Warsaw and Kyiv, no one was injured. The train operator PKP Intercity said the train was traveling from Kiev to Warsaw. There were 206 passengers on board.

Ukraine relies on trade and arms deliveries across its borders with Poland, Romania and Moldova. In recent weeks, Russia has begun targeting Ukraine's border crossings with its Western allies. This is part of systematic attacks by both sides to weaken Ukraine's economic infrastructure in the fifth year of the invasion.

Meanwhile, the fighting continued unabated. In the Russian-occupied part of the southeastern Ukrainian region of Zaporizhzhia, the head of the Russian nuclear company Rosatom accused Ukraine of an attack on tank trucks near the local nuclear power plant.

In addition, the mayor of the Russian city of Nizhnekamsk reported that Ukrainian drones had hit civilian and industrial targets. At least two people were killed and several others were injured. Ukrainian authorities did not immediately comment, but confirmed an attack on another refinery in Russia's southern Krasnodar region.
