The XXIII Annual Meeting of the Valdai Club opened in the Moscow region

The Valdai International Discussion Club opened its XXIII Annual Meeting in Istra, Moscow Region, bringing together 120 participants from 40 countries.

Program Director of the Valdai Club Timofey Bordachev said that the task of this year’s report is more global in nature and concerns such basic phenomena as man, the state, progress, morality, and ethics.

The report highlights three key theses: the world has mastered and is adapting to turbulence, the dystopia of the “last man” has not taken place, and the state in modern conditions is part of the solution to problems.

ISTRA, September 28 - RIA Novosti. The Valdai International Discussion Club opened its XXIII Annual Meeting in Istra, Moscow Region, a RIA Novosti correspondent reports.

The flagship conference brought together 120 participants from 40 countries. The topic of the meeting is “Responsibility for the future: the limits of the possible or the possibility without limits?”

The meeting opened with the presentation of the annual report of the Valdai International Discussion Club, which was called “Don’t Panic: The State and Responsibility for the Future.”

“This year, the task of the report, the task of our work was not to try to describe or prescribe specific forms of the global political and economic structure. This year our task was more global in nature,” said Timofey Bordachev, program director of the Valdai Club, at the presentation of the report.

The ideas of the report, Bordachev clarified, relate to such basic phenomena as man, the state, progress, morality, and ethics.

“We understand that most wars and conflicts in which people die are a consequence of systemic distortions that arose during the development of human civilization in its political and economic manifestations. But we remain in line with the Valdai tradition of optimism,” Bordachev clarified.

According to him, one of the most important tasks of the discussion is “to deny despondency, to deny grief over what is happening in world affairs.”
