New Party MYK convened: Response to name debates and allegations of confusion

The New Party Central Executive Board (MYK) convened at the party headquarters under the chairmanship of Chairman Özgür Özel.

After the meeting held closed to the press, Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Zeynel Emre held a press conference.

Emre stated that an application was made with the allegation of confusion regarding the name of the Yeni Party and said, "When we established the New Party, we carried out the application processes of our party to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Supreme Court in a transparent manner and in accordance with the law, including the new name, getting opinions from political parties in Türkiye and experts. There was an application regarding the allegation of confusion. This application is not new. This application was made by the Yenilik Partisi, with the claim of name similarity. This application was made in August. We were notified of this in advance. In such cases, the Public Prosecutor's Office writes a letter to the relevant party. "We do not think that there is even one person in Türkiye who confuses the New Party with the Innovation Party. When we look at the Constitutional Court decisions in the past, we witness that this has been interpreted very narrowly. Therefore, let us state that a debate based on our name is meaningless and has nothing to do with our party's organization, membership structure, legal personality and qualification for election. We protect our name."

'WE DO NOT THINK THERE IS CONFLICT'

Emre also commented, "Both the founders' board and the congress always have the authority to use whatever image they want regarding the name. But we established the New Party as the New Party because our nation wanted it. We do not think there is any confusion."

'WE ARE COMPLETELY READY'

Stating that they find it pointless to discuss the issue regarding the name of the party in some circles, Emre said, "The establishment phase of our party, the organization of 81 provinces, has been completed. We are in a position to hold congresses. The congress calendar has started and is progressing smoothly. We are planning to hold our congress on November 14-15. Therefore, from our perspective, we are completely ready, both in terms of the number of our members, our donors and our means. There is no problem about entering the elections."
