Two more survivors rescued after flash flood in Nepal

Ten days after the devastating flash floods in the Himalayas, emergency services in Nepal have rescued two more survivors. First, a man was found alive in a 225-meter-long tunnel at the Trishuli 3A hydroelectric power plant in Rasuwa district, Prime Minister Balendra Shah's office and an army spokesman said. It is a Chinese citizen. Pictures showed him being flown out in a helicopter. A military medic treated him during the flight.

So far, three victims have been rescued from the hydroelectric power station. Two Nepalese workers were pulled out of a tunnel at the plant by emergency services on Friday.

Shortly afterwards, the army reported that it had found a survivor in Nuwakot. She was flown to the capital Kathmandu.

Search for survivors continues

The emergency services continued the search for possible survivors, including in the tunnel of the Trishuli 3A hydroelectric power plant, an army spokesman said.

At least twelve hydroelectric power plants were destroyed by the disaster on Wednesday last week. Since the flash flood, hundreds of workers who worked in hydroelectric power plants or on construction sites for new dams have been missing. The Association of Independent Power Producers in Nepal believes that more than 550 workers at the Trishuli 3A hydroelectric power project are missing. According to the association, around 115 of them could be in the main tunnel of the facility.

Authorities report more than 5,500 missing people

The total number of confirmed deaths from the disaster has now risen to at least 1,325, and a total of more than 5,500 people are still missing. According to the disaster control authority, 1,294 bodies have been recovered in Nepal so far; 5,053 other people are still missing there. In China, state media reported 31 dead and 531 missing.
