The National Fire Agency plans to carry out a simultaneous crackdown without prior notice, with fire departments across the country participating at the same time.

The targets of the crackdown are sales facilities such as large supermarkets, shopping centers, and department stores, facilities where users are concentrated such as movie theaters, and transportation facilities such as passenger car terminals, railroad stations, airports, and port general passenger facilities.

The inspection targets include shutting off power to fire-fighting facilities, stopping arbitrary operation and interlocking, closing or damaging evacuation and fire-fighting facilities such as emergency exits, and installing obstacles in evacuation passages such as stairs and hallways.

The National Fire Agency plans to specifically look into whether there are any actions that could increase casualties by hindering initial response or rapid evacuation in the event of a fire.

If serious illegal acts that are directly related to the lives of citizens, such as closing emergency exits or turning off power to fire-fighting facilities, are discovered, action will be taken in accordance with relevant laws, such as arrest or imposition of fines.

Facility officials will be guided to self-check whether firefighting facilities are operating normally and whether emergency exits and evacuation routes are secured, and on-site fire safety consulting will also be provided on initial response in the event of a fire and user evacuation and evacuation tips.

Song Ho-young, director of the fire prevention department at the National Fire Agency, said, "During the Chuseok holiday, more people than usual use facilities at once, so if a fire breaks out due to negligence in safety management, it can lead to serious casualties. Emergency exits and evacuation routes must be secured for use at any time, and firefighting facilities must be thoroughly managed to ensure normal operation at all times."
