Operating a community recovery program for Gangneung forest fire victims

On the 30th, about 30 affected residents participated in physical activity and self-care.

(Chuncheon = Yonhap News) Reporter Jaehyun Lee = The Gangwon Provincial Social Service Agency announced on the 29th that it will operate a community recovery program for residents affected by the Gangneung forest fire in 2023 on the 30th.

This program, which was prepared as part of the '2026 Disaster Victims' Daily Recovery Support Mind Care Project', is participated by the Gangneung City Volunteer Center, Greenpeace, and the Psychosocial Support Education Center for Peace to the People.

The program is held twice at the Gangneung City Volunteer Center and Jeo-dong Senior Citizens' Center, and about 30 residents affected by disasters such as forest fires participate.

Participating residents alleviate psychological difficulties caused by disasters and seek to restore relationships among residents through physical activities and self-care programs.

Disaster welfare workers also participate to help build relationships among residents and run programs.

Yoo Man-hee, director of the Provincial Social Service Center, said, “In order to recover from a disaster, the process of taking care of the body and mind together and restoring relationships is important,” and added, “We will work with the local community to support the recovery of residents affected by the disaster.”
