Chen Yejia shares a trip to one of the top 100 cultural bases: Bixin Bookstore helps record a video documenting cultural exploration

[Reporter Ling Meixue/Taipei Report] The first Top 100 Cultural Bases have been on the road for more than a year. A letter of thanks from the "Chen Ye Family" in the United States to the Ministry of Culture contains the purest and simplest comments. Minister of Culture Li Yuan was moved and said that the top 100 cultural bases are like stars, lighting up the memory and emotions of the land that Taiwan carries together. I hope everyone can hear the sound of the land and feel the power of culture while playing.

The letter from "Chen Yejia" specifically mentioned several bases that impressed them, including when they went to the "Lai Yilan Wet Market" to get stickers. Mr. Song from the base gave their children several scents they made to smell, including "mountain", "river", "sea", and the "smell of Taiwan" they created. They hope that children can use their own eyes, noses, and feet to understand Taiwan, and not just know the world from 3C. Chen Yejia said, "I was actually very touched at that moment, because this is exactly what we are doing on this trip: let the children walk, see, smell, and talk to people on their own."

There are also stickers of Zhonghe Myanmar Street placed in a drawer at the entrance of a stronghold. Looking for them attracts the whole family to stay and stroll around. "It was the first time that the children saw so many Burmese characters on the street. We also went to eat Indian scones and drink milk tea together. For them, it was also a very interesting lesson: it turns out that there is a world in Taiwan that is completely different from what they originally imagined. If it were not for looking for that sticker, I don’t think we would have walked into this street at all."

"The stop that impressed us deeply was the Bixin Bookstore in Hualien after the liberation." Chen Yejia mentioned that Awa from the bookstore saw that they had collected 20 or 30 stickers, and was very enthusiastic and helped the children prepare small gifts with 20 or 30 stickers. The family stayed in the bookstore for a long time, listening to Awa's story after the flood. "The whole first floor of the bookstore was flooded, and the picture books and furniture of the Ami people were greatly damaged. They dug out the furniture one by one, cleaned and scraped off the old paint, and reorganized it. They did not reopen until mid-August this year." Originally it was just to get a sticker, but in the end I heard the story of how people stayed and started over after a place experienced a disaster.
