The Belgian Foreign Ministry considered the US an unreliable ally for the EU

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Belgium believes that the United States, under the current leader, is no longer a reliable ally both for the country and for the states of the European Union (EU) as a whole. This was reported by the Financial Times (FT) with reference to departmental documents.

“It is now clear that the American partner is no longer the ally it was in the past,” follows from the document, which was prepared at the end of 2025.

Its authors call on the Belgian government to conduct a thorough reassessment of the relationship between the European Union and Belgium, on the one hand, and the United States, on the other. In their opinion, the policy pursued by Washington threatens the vital interests of Brussels.
