Seoul City selects 100 public data with high value for AI use and opens them in stages

Seoul City announced on the 6th that it will improve the method of opening public data to select and disclose 100 data with high value for artificial intelligence (AI) use among 650,000 public data.

To this end, on the 4th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Big Data Deliberation Committee reviewed the 'Seoul City AI Top 100 High-Value Dataset Selection (Plan)'.

The city analyzed metadata from 242 information systems, 37,924 tables, and 653,190 columns and discovered 204 candidates by reflecting citizen and corporate data demands and major policy tasks.

Afterwards, 100 items were selected through a comprehensive evaluation of six criteria, including AI usability, policy usability, and citizen experience.

The selected data includes ▲ 24 transportation and logistics ▲ 14 regional development and urban management ▲ 12 welfare and health ▲ 11 general public administration ▲ 11 environment and energy ▲ 9 public order and safety ▲ 9 culture and tourism ▲ 8 industry and economy ▲ 2 education.

The city focused on organizing and providing 100 pieces of data as ‘AI-ready data’ that AI can use for learning, analysis, and inference.

Unlike before, where public data had to be downloaded and pre-processed, AI is improved to learn and analyze more easily through data standardization, error value maintenance, code system maintenance, time series/spatial information structuring, and metadata reinforcement.

The 100 data will be opened in stages over three years: 30 in 2027, 30 in 2028, and 40 in 2029.

Jeong Young-jun, director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Digital City Bureau, said, "If the public data policy has focused on 'how much has been opened,' in the AI ​​era, the key is 'what data will be provided and at what quality so that it can actually be used.'" He added, "We will foster Seoul's top 100 AI high-value datasets as a core data asset for citizens and companies to develop innovative AI services and solve urban problems."
