The mayor of Yekaterinburg Alexei Orlov resigned early

The mayor of Yekaterinburg, Alexei Orlov, resigned early. The dismissal of the official was announced by the secretary of the election commission of the Sverdlovsk region, Igor Burtov, at a meeting of the collegial body, writes Kommersant.

According to Burtov, the commission received a statement from Orlov that he “either resigned or is not fulfilling powers that are incompatible with the status of a deputy of the legislative assembly of the Sverdlovsk region.”

Orlov has served as head of Yekaterinburg since February 2021. In 2026, he was re-elected for a second term. In the next five years, the mayor planned to begin construction of a second metro line.

Orlov himself has not yet commented on the resignation letter.
