China News Service, Chongqing, September 27 (Liang Qinqing) On September 26, local time, the international academic symposium "Dialogue between Chinese and Western Civilizations in the New Era: The World Significance of Chinese Modernization" was held in Madrid, Spain. The activity uses the Spanish version of the "Six Views" series of Chinese-style modernization (hereinafter referred to as the "Six Views" series) as the core carrier, bringing together representatives from the political, academic and publishing circles of China and Spain to conduct academic exchanges around the theoretical innovation, practical value and world significance of Chinese-style modernization.
The "Six Views" series is organized and compiled by the Propaganda Department of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and published by Chongqing Publishing House, a subsidiary of Chongqing Xinhua Publishing Group. It systematically explains the rich connotations of Chinese modernization from the six dimensions of world view, values, history, civilization, democracy and ecology. Chongqing continues to promote the multi-lingual international dissemination of the "Six Views" series, and has currently launched multi-lingual versions in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Among them, the Spanish version is the core version created by Chongqing for global Spanish-speaking audiences, and is jointly launched by Chongqing Publishing House and the Latin American Social Sciences Council. The six-volume Spanish version has been translated and published, and was officially promoted to the world at the 39th Guadalajara International Book Fair in Mexico. Since the publication of this series of books, it has been widely recognized and highly praised by political figures and well-known scholars in many Latin American countries. It has also become an important reference for the international academic community to discuss the modernization paths of developing countries.
José Luis Centralia, Chairman of the Communist Party of Spain, said in his speech: "Chinese-style modernization is not only an internal development process within China, but also provides a development alternative for the global South. It proves to developing countries that it is possible to achieve industrialization and growth without replicating external dependence, sacrificing sovereignty, or destroying their own cultural identity."
Zhang Qiong, deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee and director of the Information Office of the Chongqing Municipal Government, said that Chongqing, as an important strategic fulcrum for the development of western China and a comprehensive hub for inland opening-up, is aiming to build a modern people's city and contribute a unique "Chongqing Plan" to Chinese-style modernization based on the characteristics of a mountain city and a river city and the urban and rural integration of mega-city conditions. She looks forward to injecting new impetus into deepening mutual learning between Chinese and Western civilizations and continuing friendly ties through a series of pragmatic exchanges, so that the civilizational dialogue between Chongqing and Madrid, and China and Spain will go deeper and further.
Li Bin, chairman of Chongqing Xinhua Publishing Group, said that the gift of the Spanish version of this series of books to the Spanish Communist Party not only uses books as a medium and literature to help friends from all walks of life in Spain fully understand the practical results and development logic of Chinese-style modernization, but also looks forward to using this as a new starting point to deepen pragmatic cooperation in the fields of academic research, book publishing, and dialogue among civilizations.
The seminar held in Madrid means that the "Six Views" series has officially entered the Spanish-speaking areas of Europe. The Spanish version of this series relies on the academic network of the Latin American Council for Social Sciences and is targeted to the Council’s 300,000 subscribers.
At the seminar, Chinese and foreign scholars exchanged and discussed topics such as the contemporary connotation and global significance of Chinese-style modernization, and discussed academic reflections on the diversity of modernization paths.
