Hualien's famous snack "Yuli Qiaotou Stinky Tofu" opened a branch in New Taipei City's Bitan Scenic Area in early July this year. However, communities downwind reported that the strong odor was unbearable and they frequently reported it to the Environmental Protection Bureau. Environmental Protection Bureau Chief Cheng Dawei said today that he and the municipal public security team have gone to conduct an inspection. At present, the operators are in compliance with the regulations, and they will be required to expand and improve prevention and control equipment.

A well-known stinky tofu shop opened in Bitan Suoqiaotou, attracting many tourists to try it. However, a special smell continued to waft during the cooking period, which drove nearby residents crazy. Fire Chief Chen Chongyue said at the municipal meeting today that the city government and the public security team have strengthened inspections on various violations, illegal construction, river pollution and other cases, including the turning of the Wugu garbage mountain into a "summer green space". Cheng Dawei said that the odor problem reported by the public was collected 24 hours a day and sent to the laboratory for testing, and it complied with relevant laws and regulations. However, in terms of residents' feelings, because there was no smell before, now they occasionally smell bursts of odor, and they naturally feel uncomfortable. In the future, they will continue to cooperate with the public security team, require operators to expand prevention and control equipment, and inspect buildings, land, etc. for illegal use.
