US Representative Tom Tiffany survives emergency landing in Wisconsin lake

Federal Representative Tom Tiffany, from the United States, said he had to swim to safety after the plane he was traveling in made an emergency landing in a lake on Saturday night (12).

The Republican congressman says he was returning from a party dinner in La Crosse County, Wisconsin, when the small aircraft lost power as it approached Wausau Downtown Airport.

The pilot made an emergency landing in Lake Wausau. They both fell into the water and swam to shore.

"After landing, we called the emergency service. When the plane began to sink, we left the aircraft and swam to a shallow area, where we waited until the rescue teams arrived by boat," he wrote on the social network X.

Rescuers took Tiffany and the pilot to a nearby hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries.

Tiffany is running for governor for the Republican Party in Wisconsin and has the support of President Donald Trump.

The plane in which Tiffany was traveling was a Bonanza model, single engine and with capacity for four people.
