1 Arrest in the Incident of the Killing of an Elderly Couple and Setting Their House on Fire in Elazığ

The incident took place on 08.09.2026 in the Ürünlü hamlet of Koçyiğitler village in Karakoçan district of Elazığ. According to the information obtained, a fire broke out in a house at night. Upon notice, fire brigade and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the scene.

The teams entered the house and removed the dead bodies of Ağa (79) and Hayriye Üykü (72), who had 7 children. With the intervention of the teams, the fire was taken under control and extinguished. The dead body of the couple was taken to the morgue for autopsy. As a result of the autopsy performed at the Malatya Forensic Medicine Institute, bullet marks were detected on the bodies of the Üykü couple. While it was evaluated that the house was set on fire after the Üykü couple was shot and killed, it was learned that the gold and valuable belongings of Hayriye Üykü were missing.

Within the scope of the investigation carried out by gendarmerie teams under the coordination of Karakoçan Public Prosecutor Ahmet Burak Kara, 3 suspects were detained regarding the incident. H.Ç., one of the suspects whose procedures were completed at the District Gendarmerie Command, was referred to Karakoçan Courthouse. The suspect, who was brought before the court, was arrested and sent to prison.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs shared details about the incident. In the autopsy examination performed on Ağa and Nimet Üykü couple; It was reported that he was shot to death with a firearm bullet in the chest area, then the incident was made to look like a fire, and 2 bracelets, 1 necklace and 2 earrings belonging to Nimet Üykü were stolen. It was reported that the suspect H.Ç., who made the incident look like a fire, fled to Istanbul with the stolen gold and tried to sell it in a jewelery store, was identified from airport X-Ray images and was caught.
