Investigators have named versions of the fire on the Triumph ship off Kamchatka

Investigators are considering a technical malfunction of the ship's electrical equipment, violation of fire safety rules and violation of the rules of technical operation of the vessel as the main versions of the cause of the fire on the fishing vessel "Triumph" off the eastern coast of Kamchatka, reported the Russian Investigative Committee for the Kamchatka Territory.

The ship, which had 29 crew members on board, caught fire on Friday evening in the Pacific Ocean east of Cape Khodzhelaika, reported the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Kamchatka Territory. 25 people were evacuated, four were hospitalized in serious condition. The whereabouts of four more sailors have not been established; a search has been organized.

“The investigation is considering three main versions of the incident: a technical malfunction of the ship’s electrical equipment, violation of fire safety rules by members of the ship’s crew, violation of the rules of technical operation of the ship,” the agency informed on the Max platform.

A criminal case was initiated under an article on violation of traffic safety rules and operation of maritime transport. Investigators have already interrogated crew members, seized ship documentation, and requested information about the classification and technical examination of the vessel, including fire extinguishing equipment. Navigation and fire-technical examinations have been appointed.
