Court releases mother of baby found charred in the trash in DF

The court decided to release the mother of the newborn found charred in the trash, in the Federal District. The woman, aged 35, and her partner, aged 56, had been arrested for infanticide on Friday (25).

At the custody hearing held this Saturday (26), the court maintained the man's arrest and ordered the woman's release. According to the police, the companion had been released from jail around four months ago.

The baby's body was found charred among garbage and rubble, in Quadra 402 of Recanto das Emas. The expert must still determine whether the child was alive or dead when he was left at the scene.

Police say companion knew about the disposal

According to police chief Zander Pacheco, the man initially denied knowing that his partner was pregnant. The police, however, analyzed security camera footage and identified the two at the scene.

The images show the woman leaving the house with a bag, going to the place where the baby was found and returning home.

“You can see in the images this young man pointing out the location to her, that is, implying that he was aware of the entire situation,” said the delegate.

In testimony, the man also said that he is not the father of the newborn.

Police looking for third suspect

According to the Civil Police, a third man appears in security camera images setting fire to the place where the body was found. He has not yet been identified.

"We still don't have enough elements to indicate whether or not this third individual was aware that they had a child's body there, but we are taking steps and the investigation continues in this regard", said the delegate responsible for the case, Zander Viera Pacheco.

According to police, the baby was carrying the placenta and umbilical cord, amidst burnt trash and rubble.

The house where the couple lived must undergo forensic examination. The report from the Medical-Legal Institute (IML) must also indicate whether the child was already dead when left in the trash or whether there were signs of life.

The mother and her partner undergo a custody hearing this Saturday (26). The Court will decide whether the arrests in the act will be converted into preventive arrests or whether the two will be able to respond to the process in freedom.

Police found mother after analyzing images

Security cameras helped investigators reach the baby's mother. She was found at home, where she was with her partner. The couple lived a few meters from the place where the newborn was left.

According to the delegate, initially the woman had a crying fit and confessed to being the child's mother. She told the police that she had suffered a miscarriage in the bathroom and that the baby had already been born dead.

According to the police chief, the woman was initially unable to explain why she discarded the body in the trash.

According to the Civil Police, the images, however, show the woman leaving the house with a bag, going to the place where the body was found and returning home still with the bag.

"It is possible to see in the images this boy pointing out the location to her, that is, implying that he was aware of the entire situation", says the delegate.
