Fire hits classroom and part of the ceiling collapses in São Luís do Piauí

A fire broke out in a school classroom in São Luís do Piauí this Saturday (26). The fire caused part of the ceiling to collapse.

Mayor Renato Pio reported that the fire is suspected to be an electrical failure in a fan. The room was empty at the start of the incident.

Residents of the village of Santana noticed the fire and controlled the flames using water. Firefighters were called, but the fire had already been contained.

No students, teachers or staff were in the building at the time of the fire and no one was injured. Students would take a test in the afternoon.

The city hall rescheduled the test and suspended classes at the school. The expectation is that activities will resume on Thursday (1st).

A fire broke out in a classroom at the Manoel de Barros e Silva School Unit, in the village of Santana, in São Luís do Piauí, this Saturday (26). Images sent by the city council show that part of the ceiling collapsed onto the desks after the fire reached the location. Nobody was injured.

According to Mayor Renato Pio, the main suspicion is that the fire was caused by an electrical failure in the fan in one of the rooms. The flames quickly spread throughout the room, which was empty at the time.

According to city hall, residents noticed the fire and went to the school to help fight the flames with water. The fire was controlled before specialized teams arrived.

According to the city hall, students, teachers or staff were not at the school at the time of the fire. Nobody was injured. According to municipal management, students should attend the unit in the afternoon to take a test.

"The fire broke out in a room, but people arrived with water. There was no one there, I think the management. There were going to be classes this afternoon, a test for the students", explained the mayor.

The test scheduled for this Saturday has been rescheduled. The city hall also reported that classes were suspended after the fire. According to the mayor, the expectation is that activities will resume on Thursday (1st), but the date still depends on official confirmation from municipal management.

A team from the Piauí State Military Fire Department (CBMEPI) was called to respond to the incident, but upon arriving at the scene, the flames had already been controlled.
