Canada Emphasizes "Strategic Autonomy" at the UN

In his speech at the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) held in New York, USA, Anand stated that state sovereignty is considered one of the cornerstones of the UN Charter and that it is often disregarded.

Stating that an environment has emerged in which great powers have withdrawn from economic cooperation and national sovereignty is increasingly challenged, and that the international order is experiencing "not a transition period, but a rupture", Anand said, "The needle has turned in the global order." he said.

Noting that Canada will pursue more "strategic autonomy" in response to this situation and "reduce its dependence on a single partner," Anand stated that they aim to expand their relations with both established and new partners.

Emphasizing that his country will adopt the "principle of value-oriented realism", Anand said, "Although some prefer to build higher walls and withdraw from international interaction, we believe that long-term partnerships are the path to prosperity and security." he said.

CANADA PLANS TO GET CLOSE TO CHINA

Anand noted that Canada will continue its presence in the Indo-Pacific region, deepen its economic relations with India and China, and seek new opportunities in Latin America. Referring to the course of events in the Middle East region, Anand emphasized that the Tehran administration should "never have nuclear weapons" and said that they also condemn Iran's regional actions.
