Announcer known as 'Emperor of Paraná' dies in serious accident on PR-218

Rodeo announcer Giovany Araújo, aged 62, died in an accident reported on PR-218, in Iguaraçu, in the North of Paraná.

According to the State Highway Police (PRE), the victim was on the back of a motorcycle that was driven by his son, on Thursday night (8).

The two crashed into a car.

He was known by the nickname "Emperor of Paraná".

At km 281, the vehicle crashed into a car that was accessing the highway from the opposite lane.

Both the motorcycle and the car caught fire after the collision. The pilot was rescued by teams from the Integrated Emergency Trauma Care Service (Siate) and the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) and then taken to a hospital in the region. Giovany, however, did not survive his injuries and died at the scene.

PRE did not locate or identify the driver of the car. According to the report, he fled the scene after the crash.

RPC, a TV Globo affiliate in Paraná, found that Giovany was on his way to Marialva, a city 44 kilometers away from the accident site and where he lived.

Giovany had been a rodeo announcer since 1994. At the end of September, he participated in an event in Florida, in the north of the state, and was one of the last posts on social media.

Currently, he also hosted a country show on television.

The wake is scheduled to take place at Marialva City Hall. The time was not disclosed until the last update of this report.
