Father is sentenced to more than 345 years for raping daughters and stepdaughters in MG

A man was sentenced to more than 345 years in prison, under a closed regime, for sexually abusing his daughters and stepdaughters in Triângulo Mineiro. According to the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG), the crimes occurred between 2007 and 2023. Over the 16 years of violence, three of the five victims had children with the accused.

In a decision published on Thursday (8), the court upheld the man's conviction for the crimes of rape of a vulnerable person, qualified rape and threat. His wife was also sentenced to 90 years in prison for failure to prevent abuse at home.

The process is being processed in secret and, therefore, the names of those involved and the city where the crimes occurred were not disclosed. To g1, TJMG confirmed that the case was registered in the region.

Rape of a vulnerable person is the crime of having sexual intercourse or carrying out another libidinous act with a minor under the age of 14 or with a person who, due to some condition, does not have the capacity to consent. The crime is provided for in article 217-A of the Penal Code.

In addition to the prison sentences, the court's decision determined the payment of R$10,000 in moral damages to each victim.

According to the MPMG complaint, the abuse began when the victims were around 10 years old. The rapporteur of the case at the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais (TJMG), judge Mauro Riuji Yamane stated that the materiality and authorship of the crimes were proven by DNA tests, police reports, reports and statements.

The complaint also pointed out that the woman, mother of some of the victims and stepmother of the others, was aware of the reports made by the girls themselves and, despite having a legal duty of care, did not prevent the abuse from continuing over the years.

The man's defense requested the annulment of the case under the argument of restriction of defense (when one of the parties to the case is prevented from defending themselves), after the Court denied requests for an examination of mental insanity and breach of telematic confidentiality.

In the request, the lawyers requested acquittal due to an alleged lack of evidence and claimed that the relationships had occurred with the consent of the victims.

The woman's defense also asked for acquittal, claiming that she was unaware of the crimes. Alternatively, he requested that the accusation be downgraded to sexual harassment towards one of the victims.

The case's rapporteur rejected the defenses' appeals and upheld the convictions.
