Money transfer investigation against Melih Gökçek and his family continues

The investigation that Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched ex officio last week against former Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Melih Gökçek and his family regarding allegations of unregistered money transfers to companies abroad continues. Melih Gökçek's son Ahmet Gökçek and his daughter-in-law Hülya Gökçek, who testified as 'suspect' on Friday, were also called to testify within the scope of the same investigation. Ahmet Gökçek and Hülya Gökçek came to Ankara Courthouse to testify as suspects.

The statement made by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office included the following statements:

"As part of the investigation carried out by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the statement of former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor İbrahim Melih Gökçek was taken as a suspect, and within the scope of the investigation, Ahmet Gökçek and Hülya Gökçek will be present at our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to take their statements as suspects."

"I DO NOT HAVE ANY CONCERNS ON MY BEHALF"

On the other hand, former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek testified as a "suspect" at the Ankara Courthouse last Friday.

Gökçek, who testified for about 2 hours, made statements to journalists outside the courthouse.

Stating that he will make the necessary statements after the investigation carried out by the prosecutor's office is completed, Gökçek said, "Hopefully, if God wills, this investigation of the prosecutor's office will be completed. Then we will get the result. After that, do not worry, we will talk to all of you a lot on television. As you know, Melih Gökçek is not a man who does not talk like that, nor is he a shy man." he said.

Stating that this was not the first time in his life that he testified and that he had been subjected to various investigations before, Gökçek evaluated his mayoral periods in three separate phases.

Gökçek stated that he underwent around 500 investigations and investigations during the 9-year opposition period following his first election in 1994, and said that he decided not to prosecute all of these investigations.

Noting that he had approximately 100 investigations and investigations during the AK Party and Welfare Party governments, Gökçek stated that the statements in question were in the archives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the prosecutor's office, and nothing came out during this period.

Touching on the allegations regarding the term of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, Gökçek argued that the statements that nearly 100 investigations were opened against him did not reflect the truth.

Stating that he had a total of 25 inspections and investigations during his Yavaş period, Gökçek continued as follows:

"21 of them have been completed, the results of 4 of them have not come to me. Some of the completed investigations took place in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and some in the prosecutor's offices. While these investigations were being carried out, expert reports were taken. My statement was taken in all of them. Mansur Yavaş lies by saying 'He did not even go to testify'. Our statements were taken during the investigations. Without exception, Mansur Yavaş objected to all the completed investigations. They objected to the Council of State for the decisions made by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and to the higher court for the decisions made by the prosecutor's offices. "21 files were approved in my favor by the Supreme Court and the Council of State."

Gökçek said, "If God willing, the decision will be made here in the coming days. I am also waiting with curiosity. With God's permission, I do not have any concerns about justice. I am a person who tells the truth. God willing, I will appear on your television frequently after the decision is made, so don't worry. Is there ever a time in life when Melih Gökçek hesitates to discuss on television? Have you ever heard or seen it?" he said.
