Naples, thousands in the streets against the dear Rc Auto: "We want equality"

A national mobilization starting from the South to ask for equality on car insurance rates and structural interventions against the high cost of fuel. Piazza del Carmine in Naples was filled this morning with thousands of citizens for the demonstration promoted by the 'Let's make sure we are all equal' Committee, transforming a battle born in Campania into a protest destined to continue in the rest of the country.

The speakers were mainly motorists and citizens exasperated by the high insurance prices. "I'm 21 years old and I pay 1,800 euros in insurance," said a young protester. Among the signs displayed in the square, "Same laws, same car insurance rates", "Naples says enough, equality for all" and "Instead of electoral stamps we want regular rates".

"This is not the demonstration of a party or a single parliamentarian, but of citizens who ask not to be discriminated against because of the place in which they live. The South does not want privileges, it wants to be treated in the same way as the rest of Italy. If a motorist does not cause accidents, he cannot continue to be penalized just because he lives in Naples, Caserta or in another southern province", underlines Francesco Emilio Borrelli, deputy of the Green-Left Alliance.

"In the Neapolitan area - reports the parliamentarian - the profit for the companies would reach around 155 euros for each single policy. Fraudsters must be prosecuted without discounts, but the cost of fraud cannot be passed on to the vast majority of honest citizens".

"Seeing such a large participation shows how much the problem is felt. This is only the first appointment - assures Cosimo Merolla, representative of the Committee - We will bring the voices heard today in Naples also to Rome, because Motor Insurance and high fuel costs are now having a heavy impact on the daily lives of families, who are now in desperation".
