Problem with drone X-ray on the Polish coast

Military experts - as an RMF FM reporter found out - cannot x-ray the drone with a special X-ray device. The machine's covering does not allow X-rays to pass through.

The search for other methods to examine and possibly disarm the unmanned vehicle is ongoing. The services are very keen to examine this machine in its entirety, without the need to detonate it.

As the RMF FM reporter's interlocutors emphasize, it is rare to find a military drone preserved in such good condition.

For us, this is a mine of knowledge about Russian technologies, so we must do everything to prevent the drone from being destroyed, said the military.

So far, experts have only managed to confirm that the find does not pose a radiological, biological or chemical threat.

What is known about the origins of the drone?

On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that a drone had been found on the Polish coast. The head of the Ministry of National Defense said that more and more data indicate that it may be a new model of the Gerber-type drone that was lost by the Russians. Most likely he came from Russia via Lithuania. The countries will work together to explain how exactly the drone ended up in the sea.

According to preliminary findings, the drone was not equipped with a warhead, but had a small amount of explosive material that could be used to self-destruct in the event of a threat of being taken over by unauthorized persons.

Kosiniak-Kamysz later also spoke about the case on TVN24. He noted that the unmanned aerial vehicle found may be more advanced than the devices that have been analyzed by the Polish services so far.

This drone is probably even more advanced than those we have been able to analyze so far. This is very important for the Military Counterintelligence Service and for all analyzing services. Most likely, it was lost by the Russian Federation during some attempted maneuvers over the Baltic Sea - said the head of the Ministry of National Defense.
