Selçuk Mızraklı was released

Selçuk Mızraklı, who was elected Co-Mayor of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality in the 2019 local elections, was arrested the same year.

Mızraklı, who had been in prison for 7 years, was released.

Mızraklı was welcomed by his family and DEM Party members when he left Edirne Prison.

Selçuk Mızraklı will go to Diyarbakır in the evening.

9 YEARS 4 MONTHS IMPRISONMENT

Mızraklı was dismissed on August 19, 2019, and a trustee was appointed, and he was arrested in October 2019 on the charge of "being a member of a terrorist organization".

In 2020, the court sentenced Mızraklı to 9 years, 4 months and 15 days in prison. The Supreme Court of Appeals decided to overturn this decision, but in 2023, Diyarbakır 9th High Criminal Court gave the same sentence to Mızraklı again.

WHO IS SELÇUK MIZRAKLI?

Selçuk Mızraklı was born in Siverek in 1963. When Mızraklı was three years old, his family moved to Eskişehir due to his father's job. He studied primary and secondary school in Eskişehir.

After graduating from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, he started working as a doctor in Diyarbakır in 1991. He worked as a surgeon and worked at the Medical Chamber. He also took an active part in the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) since 2000.

He was arrested for 2 months in 2017 due to his involvement in DTK.

He was elected as the Mayor of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality in the 2019 elections and was dismissed by appointing a trustee in his place 5 months after his election. Mızraklı stayed in Edirne Prison with his cellmate Selahattin Demirtaş.

Mızraklı is married and has three children.
