Suspension of classes in Murcia, Almería and Valencia due to rain and storms

The rains and storms expected for this Thursday have led to the suspension of school activities in different municipalities of Murcia, Almería and the Valencian Community, due to the weather warnings activated by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) and the risk of intense rainfall, storms and hail.

In the Valencian Community, Valencia has agreed to close the schools in its southern districts this Thursday due to the orange alert for rain on the southern coast. In Alicante, the Elche City Council has suspended teaching activities and outdoor activities until 3:00 p.m., in addition to closing parks and orchards and suspending outdoor sports and recreational activities.

In the Region of Murcia, classes have been suspended in all educational centers in Lorca, Puerto Lumbreras, Águilas, Aledo, Totana, Alhama de Murcia, Fuente Álamo, Mazarrón, Cartagena, La Unión, Los Alcázares, Torre Pacheco, San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar. The measure also affects several districts of the municipality of Murcia, including Corvera, Sucina, Gea and Truyols, Valladolises, Avileses, Lobosillo and Los Martínez del Puerto.

In Cartagena, the suspension of teaching and non-teaching activity remains until 3:00 p.m. due to the orange warning for rains and storms, which contemplates accumulations of up to 50 liters per square meter in one hour and up to 100 liters in 12 hours. Various municipal and social center activities have also been suspended until that time. In turn, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena has issued a statement announcing the suspension of in-person teaching and work activities this Thursday.

In Almería, the Board has suspended in-person educational activity this Thursday in Pulpí, Huércal-Overa and Cuevas del Almanzora, where parks and gardens have also been closed. The decision comes in light of the orange warning for rain and storms in the Levante of Almería, with a forecast of up to 50 liters per square meter in one hour and 100 liters in 12 hours. The Board has also sent an ES-Alert message to mobile phones in the affected areas.
