Statement from Deputy Minister of Trade Gürcan regarding bagel prices in Istanbul

Deputy Minister of Trade Mahmut Gürcan made a statement about bagel prices in Istanbul.

Gürcan said, "Applications that violate the price tariffs in force regarding simit sales in Istanbul are closely monitored by our Ministry; whether businesses act in accordance with the legislation is meticulously examined through field inspections. The heaviest administrative sanctions will be applied within the scope of the relevant legislation to businesses that are found to be selling in violation of the price tariffs within the scope of the inspections; all necessary legal and administrative processes will be carried out with determination."

In his statement on his social media account, Gürcan stated that inspections regarding bagel sales in Istanbul will continue and said:

"It is among our main priorities to ensure that every product that reaches our citizens' tables is offered under fair, transparent and legal conditions. As the Ministry of Commerce, we continue our inspections uninterruptedly in order to protect the economic interests of our citizens, to protect our consumers against unfair and exorbitant price practices and to establish fair competition conditions in the markets.
