Tragedy in the Caucasus Mountains: Death of Rosgvardiya officers during training

The events took place on September 6, when a 33-person group was returning to the base after activities in the mountains. The training participants, together with Albert Izotov, a 69-year-old alpinist and instructor from St. Petersburg, found themselves under a mass of snow and ice, reports "Kommersant".

According to the daily, the bodies of 13 people were found. Five participants of the expedition are missing, and 10 officers required medical assistance.

Among the injured were representatives of various Russian special formations, mainly Rosgvardiya units. The training program included, among others: mountaineering, climbing, navigation, equipment operation and rules of safe movement in mountainous terrain.

The exam did not take place

"After the training, the participants took the exam, their results were summarized and tasks for the next stage of the training were assigned." However, the test did not take place.

The Rosgvardiya confirmed that some of the dead served in this formation. However, she denied earlier reports that all the victims belonged to the elite Vityaz Special Purpose Center.

The Russian Investigative Committee has initiated proceedings into the suspected negligence of the training organizers. Internal inspections began in the formations that sent officers to the training camp. The search operation in the Bezengi gorge continues.

Historically, the "Vityaz" branch specialized in, among others, in anti-terrorist activities, hostage release and high-risk operations. In 2008, it was merged with another special unit - "Rus" - creating the 604th Special Purpose Center of the National Guard.

The Rosgvardiya reports directly to the President of Russia and is used, among others, to maintain internal order, protect strategic facilities and take action during armed conflicts.
