Two cleaning workers injured in attack with cutting weapon in Ahrensburg

Two people were injured in an attack with a cutting weapon on cleaning workers in front of an apartment building in Ahrensburg. A 43-year-old woman was critically injured around 9:45 a.m., police said. When her 54-year-old colleague wanted to help, he injured himself slightly when he came into contact with the suspect. The 32-year-old suspected perpetrator was arrested. He is now being investigated on suspicion of attempted murder.

According to the investigators' initial findings, the two cleaning workers were busy cleaning the apartment building in the morning when the German suspect approached them. Because the man approached them with a long, machete-like sword, the two victims fled outside and sought refuge in their car. The suspect is said to have broken a window of the car and critically injured the woman with a slashing weapon, the police reported.

After the crime, the attacker left on foot. However, based on various tips from witnesses, police officers managed to arrest him near the crime scene. Emergency services confiscated a long machete-like sword. Specialists from the criminal investigation department secured traces and evidence at the scene.

According to previous police reports, there was no longer any danger to the population after the suspect was arrested. The background to the attack is part of the murder squad's investigation. “There are indications that the attacker was in an exceptional psychological state. He is currently in police custody,” the police reported in the afternoon.
