Zakharova called on Japan to behave decently to resume trips to the Kuril Islands

Japan, which wants to resume visa-free travel to the Kuril Islands to visit the graves of their ancestors, needs to behave decently and remember diplomacy. This was stated by official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, RIA Novosti reports.

“You just need to behave decently, remember that diplomacy exists, and stop creating additional problems to all that they have already created in bilateral relations,” the diplomat noted.

On September 16, the Japanese Embassy informed Izvestia that Tokyo was counting on the resumption of a special procedure for Japanese citizens visiting the southern Kuril Islands. We are talking about humanitarian trips to visit the graves of relatives without a visa.

Earlier, the Japanese government appealed to the creators of the Equal Earth map with a demand to change the ownership of the southern part of the Kuril Islands on it. Japanese government spokesman Minoru Kihara said the new Earth map projection contains an image that contradicts the Japanese government's position.
