Lyudmila Narusova was reappointed senator from Tuva

After rumors about leaving the Federation Council, the mother of journalist Ksenia Sobchak and the widow of the first mayor of St. Petersburg Anatoly Sobchak, Lyudmila Narusova, was reappointed to the post of senator from the government of Tuva. The decree was signed by the head of the Russian region, Vladislav Khovalyg.

“Give the powers of the senator of the Russian Federation - representative from the government of the Republic of Tyva to Lyudmila Borisovna Narusova,” the text of the document says.

Narusova’s possible departure from the Federation Council became known in June 2026. As Kommersant wrote, Khovalyg allegedly did not intend to extend her powers as a representative of the region if he was re-elected for a new term.

The publication, in particular, called Narusova one of the most opposition senators in Russia. It was clarified that over the years of work in the Federation Council, she criticized bills to tighten the law on rallies, create an institute of foreign agents, and raise the retirement age. In addition, Narusova questioned the introduction of amendments to the Russian Constitution in 2020.
