Russia warns of legal consequences against those involved in the confiscation of its frozen assets

The Russian diplomat added: "Transferring funds to the Kiev regime is nothing but complicity in organizing terrorist operations."

Zakharova continued to say: “The Russian Federation has every right to bring charges and claims against people who sponsor acts of genocide, terrorism, or other international crimes committed by Ukraine. There is no doubt that the Europeans involved in plundering the interest on reinvesting the assets of the Bank of Russia fall squarely into this category. Such actions will not go unpunished.”

It is noteworthy that the assets of the Russian Central Bank were frozen following the start of the special Russian military operation in Ukraine in 2022, and the total volume of the assets and sovereign reserves of the Russian Central Bank that are frozen internationally is estimated at about $300 billion, according to the sanctions imposed since 2022. This number is in addition to tens of billions more in private assets and property belonging to Russian businessmen and entities subject to sanctions. The European Union reserves about 210 billion euros, and the Euroclear Foundation in Belgium holds the largest block ever, at more than 190 billion euros.
