At 13:00 today (30th), an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 occurred off the coast of eastern Taiwan, with a maximum magnitude of 2. The Central Meteorological Administration stated that this earthquake was an independent event, but it was necessary to prevent aftershocks of magnitude 5 in the next three days.

Qiu Junda, section chief of the Earthquake Forecasting and Forecasting Center of the Meteorological Administration, said that the location is some distance from Taiwan, so only a few places have magnitude 2 earthquakes, while other places only have magnitude 1 earthquakes. The earthquake occurred in the Southeast Ocean Basin. The main cause was the collision of the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Sea Plate.
