Artificial intelligence will not replace service personnel in the transport industry, says First Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Transport Konstantin Pashkov.

EKATERINBURG, September 16 - RIA Novosti. Service personnel, including road and track workers, will remain indispensable by artificial intelligence in the transport industry, although the list of professions may change over time, First Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Transport Konstantin Pashkov told RIA Novosti.

“Of course, most likely (artificial intelligence - ed.) will not replace service personnel. That is, these are those who work on the ground and who must do something with their hands,” he answered on the sidelines of the International Youth Festival when asked about the list of professions irreplaceable by AI.

According to the First Deputy Minister of Transport, artificial intelligence is intended only to facilitate the work of specialists, but not to completely replace them.

“Artificial intelligence is not intended to completely replace (staff - ed.). It performs an auxiliary function for now. We’ll see then,” Pashkov noted.

For example, he added, unmanned trams, asphalt pavers, and bulldozers have already been created, which specialists control remotely.

“In the future, artificial intelligence will take over a significant part of operations. I do not rule out that it will be programmed, as a completely autonomous system, to lay asphalt, and, for example, to pick up luggage at the airport from the plane to the terminal. Therefore, the map of professions will change, but I am not ready to make a 100% forecast now,” Pashkov concluded.
