TRNC Meteorology Department Director was dismissed after the Filo Jet disaster

Dismissals continue after the passenger ship named "Fleet Jet" sank off the coast of Kyrenia in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). In the process that started with the dismissal of TRNC Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı, TRNC Meteorology Department Director Sinan Güneş was also dismissed from his position with the decision published in the Official Gazette.

With Güneş's dismissal, the number of people dismissed so far following the Filo Jet disaster has increased to 6. After Erhan Arıklı was dismissed from his post as Minister of Public Works and Transport by TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel on September 2, three officials within the ministry and 2 public employees working at the port were dismissed.

The judicial investigation into the Filo Jet disaster and investigations to determine whether there was negligence or fault in the accident are continuing.

FLEET JET DISASTER

The catamaran type high-speed passenger ship named "Fleet Jet", which was operating between Kyrenia Port in TRNC and Taşucu Port in Mersin, started to take in water from its front part shortly after departing from Kyrenia at noon on August 30, and sank while trying to return to Kyrenia Port.

Of the 267 passengers and crew on the ship, 239 were rescued and 14 passengers lost their lives. Search and rescue efforts for the 14 missing people continue uninterrupted. The wreckage of the ship was detected at a depth of 554 meters.
